My R+Co Curly Hair Routine

I have a number of different product regimes, depending on how I want to wear my hair. For the days when I want an ultra defined wash & go, I like to use R+Co.

If you aren’t familiar, R+Co are user-friendly salon quality products that are made without parabens, sulfates (SLS or SLES), mineral oil and petrolatum. They are all vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free and color-safe.

I can use a few products from the collection for a softer curl, but for when I want my curls to last me at least a week, I have a 10-step fool proof process that gives me my best curls.

Step 1: R+Co Crown Scalp Scrub ($38)

This is a purifying and soothing scrub that detoxes, cleanses and re-balances your scalp, and is even good for sensitive and oily skin. It is great for curly hair specifically because we tend to go 3 days or more between washes, so this scrub helps to loosen the sebum build up we often get.

Step 2: R+Co Atlantis Moisturizing Shampoo ($29)

Step 3: R+Co Atlantis Moisturizing Conditioner ($29)

This shampoo and conditioner duo are best suited for thick and course hair, that is in need of moisture. It contains Babassu Oil, Witch Hazel, Rosemary, Nettle, and Vegetable Protein that all help to eliminate frizz, strengthen your hair, and increase your moisture content.

Step 4: R+Co High Dive Moisture + Shine Crème ($29)

This crème doubles as a leave-in conditioner, and is formulated to smooth and seal the hair as it moisturizes, softens and drowns out frizz.

Step 5: R+Co Twister Curl Primer ($28)

This is a lightweight primer that acts as a foundation for the rest of the products in my routine. It adds moisture for definition and prevents hair from feeling crunchy. It has great slip, and can be used as a detangled or even a refresher for next day frizz.

Step 6: R+Co Aircraft Pomade Mousse ($32)

This mousse contains vegetable protein, and neem oil to to strengthen the hair, and increase moisture content; papaya extract to create volume while adding body and shine; and heat protection polymer in case you want to blow dry and will also help to reduce frizz.

Step 7: R+Co Wall St Strong Hold Gel ($28)

This is super-shine gel that gives a strong, lasting hold without crunchiness, flakiness or build-up. It is ideal for wash and go styles because it isn’t overly drying, and maintains the moisture content in your hair while keeping frizz at bay.

Step 8: R+Co Freeway Defining Spray Gel ($29)

I like to add adiitional hold for any pieces I may have missed by using this spray gel formula. It amplifies volume and adds control from root to tip. On its own,it is great for soft bouncy hold on your curls.

Step 9: R+Co Tinsel Smoothing Oil ($25)

Once my hair is dry, I break up the gel cast with tinsel to add shine and resist humidity.

Step 10: R+Co Mannequin Styling Paste ($28)

My final step is smoothing my edges, and I do that with their styling paste when I want to keep them in place. I prefer this product because it is matte and doesn’t leave a greasy appearance like most edge products do.

Occasionally, I will swap this product with their Dart Pomade Stick ($19) when I want a more polished look for my up-do styles.
