Nubian Heritage Body Care Products
In the early days of my first blog in 2014, one of the first brands I worked with was Nubian Heritage. I recently reconnected with them, and was able to test out some of their body care products. I wasn’t sure what I was going to receive, but I ended up receiving exactly what I needed.
Nubian Heritage Olive Oil & Green Tea Bar Soap - 5 oz. ($4.99)
I’m in the minority when it comes to my preferred method of washing, because I prefer bar soaps over liquid body washes. The problem with having eczema and severely dry skin, is that it can be difficult finding bars that are hydrating.
This bar is made from Shea Butter, Olive Oil and Avocado Oil that support skin's natural moisture barrier. The Green Tea leaves gently exfoliate for a more radiant and youthful appearance.
This soap definitely works up to a great lather to remove impurities from your skin. Unfortunately, I did not find it to be ultra-moisturizing like it claims. When I got out of the shower, my skin did feel dry and a little tight. I am assuming it is primarily due to the fragrance in the bar. It is the 4th ingredient ahead of the Shea Butter, Olive Oil and Green Tea, which would be a deterrent for me when making future purchases.
I generally avoid all synthetic fragrances in my body products because they dry my skin out, and cause eczema flare ups. If I do explore more Nubian Heritage bar soaps, I will most likely try a different formulation that fits my skincare concerns. I had a great experience with their black soap body wash in the past, so I ill likely try their African Black Soap Bar which should have similar results.
Nubian Heritage Honey & Black Seed Hand Cream - 4 fl. oz. ($9.97)
After years of not having any eczema issues, in 2018 I developed Dyshidrotic eczema, or dyshidrosis. This is a more severe case of eczema on the palms of your hands and feet, that results in self rupturing blisters, extreme itchiness, swelling, and inability to use your hands if not treated properly. I am able to keep most of the blisters at bay with the use of a topical steroid, but I am often left with extremely dry hands.
Prior to developing dyshidrosis, I used the same lotion on my hands as I did my body, but now I need something more emollient to counteract the flaking. Luckily I was able to try out the Honey & Black Seed hand cream, and I have really been enjoying it.
This product claims to be a nutrient-rich moisturizing treatment, that is specially formulated with Black Seed Oil which is known for its skin-enhancing properties. Arabian Honey soothes the skin while Apricot Oil helps moisturize and nourish.
Prior to receiving this cream, I just lived with the flaky dry skin on the palms of my hands. I’ve been using it for about a week, and this is the best condition my hands have been in since 2017. It is booth hydrating and soothing, so it also helps with any itchiness I may feel. This is something I will definitely keep in my body care regime to maintain soft and supple hands.
Nubian Heritage Patchouli & Buriti Infused Shea Butter - 4 oz. ($13.99)
I prefer using organic lotions, however they don’t contain the silicone I need to seal the moisture in my skin. One of the natural ways I solve this problem is by sealing my water based lotions with shea butter.
The Patchouli & Buriti infused Shea Butter claims to help soothe and hydrate skin. Patchouli relaxes and soothes the senses while Buriti Oil hydrates and rejuvenates skin’s appearance.
I have never had any luck with raw shea butter, or essential oil infused butters, hydrating my skin in the past. The steroid I use for my skin is very drying, so I need a water based lotion or cream to really penetrate my skins surface. But in conjunction with my other lotions that I’ve been using, it is a wonderful addition. It is the missing layer I needed to make sure the moisture doesn’t escape my skin before my next shower.
I enjoy this particular formulation, but I will probably try the Honey & Black Seed Formula since the hand cream worked so well on my major problem area. I may also try the Goat’s Milk & Chai formula, since goat’s milk has been the best moisturizing ingredient I’ve ever used.
