Colourpop Blue Moon Palette
I am a huge fan of the Colourpop 9-pan monochromatic palettes, so when Blue Moon was released I knew I had to get my hands on it. Especially since I have very little blues in my collection.
Blue Moon Palette ($12)
This palette features 5 matte shadows, and 4 metallic shimmer shades, that can be used together for a monochromatic look, or with a companion palette if you prefer having deeper colors in your crease. The metallic shimmer formulas are amazingly vibrant. I would purchase this palette solely for Tide Pool because of how beautiful of a turquoise shimmer it is.
The matte shades are a little bit more difficult to work with. When I created my look, I had to work a little harder at blending the shades, and was nervous throughout the process. The shades on my skin tone kind of just blended into one another, and I couldn’t see any clear differentiation of where one shade started and stopped. It ended up coming together at the end but I was honestly scared I wouldn’t get there.
Bold Monochromatic Eye Look
Since there are no true transition shades in this palette, I decided to just go for it and do a really bold winged look. I was able to use 8 out of the 9 shadows. Here’s how I got the look:
I set my concealer with the lightest matte shade Moonlite;
I used Starry Eyed as my transition color. I also used this shade on the inner third of my lower lash line;
I used Fine China to deepen my crease. I also applied it to the center of my lower lash line;
I added Clued In slightly above my natural crease line, created the wing shape up to my brow, and used it in my outer v. I also applied it to the outer v of my lower lash line;
I applied Tide Pool to my lid;
I used Mad About U to blend Tide Pool into Clued In;
I applied a little bit of Billie Jean to the very center of my lid, with my finger;
I finished by adding Lumi to my inner corner, and a tiny bit to highlight my brow bone;
Final Thoughts
I really love how my look came together at the end. These shades can be a little tricky, and require a lot of patience and precision with blending, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for beginners. If you are a beginner, I’d suggest getting a 2nd palette with cool tone neutrals, like the Bretman Rock Wet Palette from Colourpop, to use as transition and crease shades. I’d then use the shimmers from Blue Moon on the lid.
