BH Cosmetics x ItsMyRayeRaye Shadow Palette & Brush Set

I’ve been watching ItsMyRayeRaye for some years so when she launched her first colab with BH Cosmetics, I was so excited for her. Unfortunately, I missed the first palette but when she released images and videos of her second more colorful palette, there was no way I was going to miss it again.

ItsMyRayeRaye Shadow Palette ($17.50)

The 15 Color Shadow Palette, is an essential mix of velvety mattes and radiant shimmers. There’s bright and bold colors, as well as neutrals that are great for transition shades, or even a more simple every day look. The best part is that the palette is laid out in a way where the matte shade is below the shimmer version of the same shade, making it easy to pair together for simple monochromatic looks.

This was my first ever BH purchase, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I felt the pans were a little small, but 15 shades for $17.50 is still a great value. I also appreciated that while being affordable, the palette came with a mirror which makes it very travel friendly.

After swatching, I really enjoyed the mattes in this palette. They are vibrant and pigmented, while also easy to blend. They’re also very soft, and easy to layer without getting muddy.

The shimmers on the other hand, aren’t my favorites in my collection. The golden shimmer Shinin’ and rose gold shimmer Top Notch are more glittery than the others which are more metallic. Those 2 specifically pack a really good punch, and are potentially the only 2 that I would wear without a base. The yellow shimmer Golden Girl took a few swipes for it to show up on my complexion. I also wish that the duo chrome green shimmer Show Girl was closer to a true forest or emerald green, but that is just my personal taste.

Going forward, I will probably have to use a sticky white base or a base in the same color as the shadow, to really make the shimmers pop.

ItsMyRayeRaye 9 Piece Brush Set ($25)

From the first collaboration, the 9-piece brush set was still available for purchase. Even better, it was on sale for half off. They’re described as plush synthetic bristles that blend, bronze and deposit pigments with flawless precision for endless looks. I’ve seen others say great things about them in youtube videos, so I wanted to test them out myself.

Eyeshadow Brushes

Out of the 9 brushes, 4 are specifically for eyeshadow application, and one is a dual blending and highlighter brush. I’ve had a chance to use them all, and have mixed feelings.

Brush 6 is a fluffy blending brush, but the hairs are long and softly packed, which makes it hard to really blend out your shadows. I prefer a slightly more densely packed blender to apply my crease and transition shades, so I’d really only use this one to soften edges on my shadow looks. If it were up to me, I’d make the hairs shorter on this brush so it is easier to control the application, and blend crease shades.

The other 3 were actually great. I used the number 8 shadow brush to pack shimmers onto my lid. It has great coverage and you don’t need to constantly reapply the shade you are losing. You can get great coverage with 2 swipes. The number 9 smudge liner brush was great to apply shadow to my inner corner as well as for cut crease edge detailing. I used the number 7 smudge shadow brush to run shadow along my bottom lash line, and it did a really great job at both applying and blending.

Face Brushes

There are technically 4 brushes made for face makeup. Since the Number 5 is similar to a morphe brush I prefer for blending, I will use it for highlighter application so technically there are 5 face brushes. I used all expect the Number 3 tapered contour brush because I don’t contour, but I had no complaints about these brushes at all.

I prefer synthetic brushes for my face makeup application. They don’t absorb the pigments into the hairs, so they deposit on your skin better. Once the color is off the brushes, they easily blend the powders for a flawless appearance.

I really enjoyed the application I got from using the number 5 highlighting brush. These type of brushes are ideal for loose highlighter application. The tapered shape applies the pigment precisely, while the sides of the brush blends on your cheekbone so you don’t have a harsh line of highlighter.

My bronzer blended out beautifully using the number 2 dual blush and bronzer brush. There was a seamless transition from my concealer to my bronzer, with no harsh lines, or patchiness.

I used the number 4 highlighter brush to apply my blush on top of my bronzer, and I liked how it deposited the right amount of product to my cheeks. The fibers are packed in a way that allow for soft application so the powders don’t get muddy, and the colors still popped on top of the bronzer.

I haven’t quite mastered or figured out how I will use the number 1 powder brush. I am assuming it is for setting and face powders, but it is a little smaller than I prefer for my face, and too large to set under my eyes. I most likely will use it as a back up blush brush for when I want a more diffused blush appearance, ro when I am using bolder blush colors.

Rosey Raye Liquid Lipstick (Free w/ palette purchase | $9)

From the first collaboration, I also received the Rosey Raye Liquid Lipstick, which is currently free with every ItsMyRayeRaye Shadow Palette Purchase, but also still available separately if you don’t want to pick up the palette.

This liquid lipstick is described as a kiss-proof, rich, matte rosy nude that offers all-day staying power in a non-sticky formula. I haven’t had a chance to wear it out, but when I swatched it, I did enjoy the formula. It has a velvety finish, which I prefer over ultra mattes.

It has a very large curved doe foot applicator, which initially made me a little nervous. But when I tested it on my lips, it was really easy to get an even application with one coat. Normally I have to go over a few times for a precise line, but I was able to achieve that with little effort.

My only issue with this formula is that it mostly dried down, but remained a little sticky in the very center of my lips after 20 minutes. It took a lot longer to completely dry down, but luckily it did not separate while I was waiting. I’m confident I can put this on and go about my day without it messing up before 100% drying.

I also don’t like feeling that I am wearing a lip product, and I felt this one. It tugged a little on my lips as it dried, and was slightly tight. It settled in a lot of my lines, so I’d have to wear a plumping treatment underneath to reduce the amount of lines that are visible. I’d also probably wear a gloss on top to ensure they’re not as prominent.

Simple Monochromatic Yellow Eyeshadow Look

Last weekend, I was helping setup for a party and didn’t have much time at all to do a full eye look. I opted to go for a simple monochromatic look, that I could finish under 10 minutes. Here’s how I achieved the summery yellow look below:

I first took Canary on a fluffy blender, and applied that in my crease up to my brow bone;

I applied Bark slightly above my natural crease, and along my lower lash line;

I applied Cacao directly in my crease, in my outer v, and tighter along on my lower lash line;

I used Canary as a lid base, and Golden Girl directly on top of it for a shimmery pop;

I finished off by adding Top Notch as an inner corner highlight.

Final Thoughts

After spending $30, including $6.95 for shipping, receiving all of these products was an incredible value. Even better than it just being affordable, they are great quality products as well.

If you are new to makeup and using bold colors, you will not regret picking up the palette and brush set. They are very beginner friendly, and the shadows are laid out in a way that makes it easy to pair the matte and metallic shimmer shades.

I also love that the color of the liquid lipstick is available in a Bullet Lipstick ($9), and Lip Gloss ($9) so you can get the formula that you enjoy wearing the most. They also coordinate well so you can get the liquid lipstick + gloss, or bullet lipstick + gloss, and the colors will not clash.

The best part about BH is that they are constantly offering sales. On the day I’m creating this post, the lips and brushes from the collection are 50% off, but even if they’re offered at full price, it’s an incredible value. Either way, BH runs promotions daily so you can almost guarantee you can pick these up at a discounted price on any given day.

If you’re interested in purchasing any of the ItsMyRayeRaye products from her 2 collaborations, you can pick them up from BH Cosmetics Online, or select Ulta stores nationwide.
